So what is this lawsuit all about?  The truth, and for being punished for telling it.

I'm the least of the people being sued by Blair Wilson.  He's after Canwest and The Province, the newspaper that broke the story.  The story itself was a simple one.   Blair Wilson had serious legal troubles with former business partners in failed businesses.  Worse yet, a group of unknown Liberals who worked on his campaign had delivered a package of pretty damning evidence of serious violations of Elections Canada rules.

Someone sent me a copy of that evidence, anonymously.  I posted the material, reminded everyone that the allegations were still unproven, and stated my hope that making the evidence public would help Canadians judge the outcome of the investigation, whatever that might be.

In the end, Blair Wilson was found in violation of three provisions of the act, and the Liberals would not have him back.

An MP with baggage and without a party (he joined the Green Party mere hours before the election call, so that hardly counts), he faced the voters and the voters tossed him out.

Now he lashes out, and I'm up against the financial wall because of it.

That's where you come in.  I'm aiming to raise something in the range of $15,000 to defend myself and to cover related incidentals.  It's important not just for me, but for the Canadian blogosphere that has become such an important part of Canada's media landscape.  If Blair Wilson is allowed to succeed at shutting down those who report on the facts and who tell the truth, especially those with limited means, then we'll all suffer for it.
