Volksfront fundraiser: Thanks from British Columbia

I just received this letter regarding the Volksfront story:

March 31, 2009

Dear Mr. Janke:

I am responding to your February 17,2009 email to the Honourable Rich Co1eman,Minister responsible for gaming concerning a gaming event announced by the Volksfront organization for February 21st.

Over the past 3 months, no gaming event licenses were issued to a group by the name "Volksfront". The group's intended use of proceeds would not allow them to be eligible for a gaming event license.

We understand the group ceased all references to a gaming event on their promotional materials and did not conduct such an event. Therefore, no further action is required by the Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch at this time.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Sincerely,

Assistant Deputy Minister

pc: Honourable Rich Coleman

Ministry of Housing and Social Development
Gaming Policy and Enforcement
Assistant Deputy Minister's Office

As you might recall, I had noticed that a white supremacists were planning to hold a fundraiser in British Columbia.  But the problem was that the fundraiser featured poker, and for that you need a licence, and all indications were that no licence was issued.

Within 24 hours of my post, the white supremacists cancelled the gaming elements of the fundraiser.

I couldn't understand why a simple blog post would spook these guys.  I mean, white supremacists are essentially insecure cowards, but that was ridiculous.  I had fired off an email to Minister Coleman, and now I know that the email was noticed.  Perhaps Coleman's people moved very quickly on the information I had developed, just enough to cause the neo-Nazis to immediately remove the gambling element.  Interestingly, there is a suggestion on a forum that attention was paid to the gathering, posted by none other than Paul Fromm:

I couldn't agree more. A superb evening of racial fellowship, laughter, serious talk, serious drinking (?) and song.

So good to know the local constabulary have gang shootings so under control that they could spare some men and time to snoop on us.

Paul Fromm is one of Canada's most notorious neo-Nazis.

Had the authorities decided to pay special attention to the gathering?  Had they made their interest known?  Did that prompt the neo-Nazis to cancel the gambling part of the fundraiser?

All this might explain why, right after I posted my first story, I had started to get repeated hits from a major white supremacist website, specifically from a private forum.

Who knows what was posted in that forum?

In any case, I had apparently ruined a fundraiser on behalf of Richard Kemp, a notorious member of The Order, who was about to be released from prison.

Before we leave this story, one more thing.  I received this letter this evening.  But what I haven't mentioned is that I had already noticed a measurable surge of interest from that private white supremacist forum.  I hadn't been able to pin down why the interest in this story would have been renewed.  Then, perhaps coincidently, I got this letter.

Attracting attention:  It appears that I've been getting some attention from the neo-Nazis.  Check out these comments:

  • Aryan Ex-Con: Shows how much you know punk
  • proudwhite: yes,red scum dream about niggers killing white fellows proud of their heritage

But just two comments.  Pretty mild stuff from these milquetoasts.

Check out other stories from the Volksfront archive.
