Liberal Party leader Stephane Dion is promising flexibility in the light of economic turmoil. He won't spend money on promised child care initiatives or drug insurance.
But that tax on energy? Oh yeah, the taxes are going up right away:
Liberal Leader Stéphane Dion says the global economic crisis could slow implementation of his party's promises if he's elected prime minister on Tuesday.
In an interview with Global TV, he said that the downturn in the economy could force him to slow down the “pace of investment we wanted to make in the first two years.”
He was careful to say, and he repeated this to reporters later in a scrum, that the Green Shift plan would not be affected.
Rather, he would look at slowing down his commitments on child care, a catastrophic drug program and getting more doctors.
So we'd be getting the carbon tax, with all the inflationary effects that would follow, with a potential US recession looming affecting our economy.
And what about those Green Shift tax cuts? Will they be phased in too?
Taxes are certain. Tax cuts are dependent on the economic realities at the time. I bet even the Grim Reaper knows that.
