From Green Party leader Elizabeth May -- advice to voters to not waste a vote for the Green Party:
May urged Canadians to do all they can to throw Prime Minister Stephen Harper out of office, including strongly suggesting they shouldn't vote Green if another candidate has a better chance at defeating a Conservative.
"We are too close to the edge of a global apocalypse," May said in an interview. "We have got to grab the opportunities we have. And, clearly, the contribution Canadians can make to a global solution is to get rid of Stephen Harper."
May insists she's not calling for strategic voting because that leads people to simply vote Liberal. She wants Canadians to examine their riding and figure out how best to keep the Tories from winning.
"I won't say, `You've got to vote Green if you believe in our policies.' I'll say, `Here's our policies, figure out what you need to do because, frankly, the Green party has to put progress (on climate change) and principle above short-term power.'"
From Green Party candidate Alina Abbott -- advice to voters to not waste a vote against the Green Party:
One of the big obstacles that the Green Party will face in the next election is that of the strategic voters. Those people who share our values and agree with our policies, but who are swayed by the scare tactics of the big parties that claim “If you don’t vote for us, then THEY will get in!” as they point their fingers at the other big parties.
Perhaps the next election will have the big parties waving their fingers at the Green Party candidates, exclaiming, “Vote for us, or else THEY’LL get in!” Hopefully, Canadian voters will hear this, and say, “Really? Then I’M voting GREEN!”
So does that mean Alina Abbot thinks Elizabeth May is a big obstacle facing the Green Party? Elizabeth May is saying exactly what Alina Abbot was warning we'd be hearing -- vote for Green and they get in.
The people who make this argument are obstacles for the Green Party. So, logically, Elizabeth May is an obstacle for the Green Party.
Of course, when Alina wrote this in March 2007, Elizabeth May was not working for the Liberal Party.
