I always thought the NDP fancied itself the party of the people. You know, regular folk from all walks of life.
It seems that this means that the people who vote for the NDP are supposed to be regular folk. The people who run the NDP are some special class, better than the rest of us. Helen Kormendy makes that clear, as she dismisses Conservative MP Chuck Strahl as lacking in sheer quantity of degrees:
Helen Kormendy, carrying the flag for the NDP, wants to represent Chilliwack-Fraser Canyon because she’s worried that Canada is becoming too corporate.
But what really separates Kormendy from [Conservative MP Chuck Strahl] is education, according to her.
“I guess the only thing that's different about me too with Chuck Strahl is that I'm educated,” she said. “Not to say he isn’t in a formal way, I have three degrees.
“He comes out of a high school and goes into the workforce. I come out of high school, I work for a while and since then I have a formal education. I have a degree in political science, minor anthropology… I have a degree in social work… and I also have a master’s of social work from UBC.”
Well, lah-dee-dah!
Three degrees. I guess that does make make her a better person than, say, Chuck Strahl, what with his life experience and work and stuff.
I mean, a minor in anthropology! Hey, Chuck, move over. A cabinet minister can't hold a candle to a minor in anthropology.
All hail the hero of the people, Helen Kormendy. Chuck Strahl went to work while Helen Kormendy got her minor in anthropology.
Seriously, the difference between Kormendy and Strahl isn't their differing levels of education. It's that Kormendy thinks it makes her special.
Education is a method whereby one acquires a higher grade of prejudices.
