That picture of Andre Thouin of Elections Canada carrying out papers from the headquarters of the Conservative Party is quite striking. But can it ever find its way into Liberal Party election material?
I doubt it.
There are several variations of this scene in front of Conservative Party headquarters. Here is the one credited to Tom Hanson of the Canadian Press:
Will this picture of Elections Canada official Andre Thouin executing the search warrant appear on Liberal election posters? I can't see how. Isn't it true that you need to have a signed release from anyone appearing in a photo that is used for such a purpose? Certain exceptions apply to images of public figures, but that can't be the case here.
As a bureaucrat for Elections Canada, Thouin could never provide his consent to appear in partisan election material. Seems obvious to me.
