The Canadian Association of Income Trust Investors (CAITI) is one of those organizations that might have started as an independent group with a particular goal (in this case, overturning the decision to tax income trusts), but with the failure to reach that initial (and improbable) goal, has morphed into something different -- in this case, a stooge for the Liberal Party.
To be a stooge apparently requires that the stooge repeat libelous accusations that Stephen Harper committed a criminal act.
That CAITI has become a Liberal Party stooge is pretty obvious. Their posts are listed on the Liblogs, and there is generous linkage between the CAITI blog and Garth Turner's blog. And there seems to be no limit to the insults CAITI is willing to heap upon the Conservatives in general, and on Jim Flaherty in particular.
But has CAITI crossed the line? Maybe.
Here is a screenshot of the page in question, entitled Jim Flaherty: Corruption's constant cohort:
Here is what the text reads, in part:
Corruption takes many forms. Some more studied and subtle than others.
The most common form of corruption is that practiced by the likes of Brian Mulroney in which cash is exchanged for influence peddling. Stephen Harper’s attempt to bribe Chuck Cadman is another good example of this form of corruption.
The Liberal Party is being sued by Stephen Harper for stating that the prime minister knew of an attempt to bribe Chuck Cadman.
CAITI (run by Brent Fullard) is stating, in print, that the alleged bribery was committed by Stephen Harper himself.
I would love to know what communications, electronic and otherwise, went between CAITI and any members of the Liberal Party with regards to this posting and any other regarding Chuck Cadman (and there have been plenty of them).
I suppose that could be done if CAITI, its owners, and its administrative staff were added to the lawsuit and so included in the discovery phase.
Don't mind me. I'm just musing out loud.
