Ralph Goodale and the Liberal annoyance with democracy

NDP leader Jack Layton was the target of some choice words from Liberal Ralph Goodale. Ralph Goodale seemed eager to blame someone for costing the Liberals the chance to implement a universal daycare program. But really, Canadians are the ones to blame. Too bad Ralph Goodale doesn't have the guts to say that.

Ralph Goodale, Liberal MP, was miffed with NDP leader Jack Layton when Layton suggested that should the Liberals abstain from voting on next week's Throne Speech, the Liberals would suffer at the polls in any upcoming election:

Layton said mass absence will underscore a dire lack of leadership and warned that Liberals could face the wrath of Canadians at the polls.

"The voters will hold them to account and conclude that there's no effective leadership there, that Mr. (Stephane) Dion was unprepared to stand up to the Harper agenda."

Liberal House Leader Ralph Goodale insisted Liberal MPs will discharge their responsibilities in the best interests of Canadians, but called Layton's challenge "a bit much." He said the NDP's role in bringing down the last Liberal government cost Canadians a universal child care program and billions for aboriginal Canadians.

"Mr. Layton's principles are barely skin deep, and quite frankly I will take no lectures from him on how to conduct myself in the Parliament of Canada," he said.

Two observations.

First, as I've suggested earlier, events are conspiring to make the next great battle between the Liberals and the NDP with the winner being Canada's sole left-of-centre party.

My second observation is on Ralph Goodale's apparent attitude towards the exercise of democracy.

I think Ralph Goodale is giving Jack Layton too much credit for costing Canadian a universal daycare program and billions for aboriginal Canadians. As I recall, there was an election. Ralph Goodale and his fellow Liberals tried to convince Canadians to vote the Liberals in sufficient numbers to return the Liberals to power.

The Liberals failed.

But blaming Jack Layton for not propping up the Paul Martin's Liberal minority? I guess that's the same as blaming the election itself, and therefore the voters.

Let's rework Ralph Goodale's words here. I don't think blaming Jack Layton is really fair or accurate.

[Ralph Goodale] said the NDP's role in bringing down the last Liberal government cost Canadians a universal child care program and billions for aboriginal Canadians.

Now we have to rework that struck portion.

[Ralph Goodle] said the nuisance of an election and the ignorance of slack-jawed voters cost Canadians a universal child care program and billions for aboriginal Canadians.

Nah, too wordy. And we don't know that Ralph Goodale thinks Canadians who vote are ignorant or slack-jawed. But he is clearly upset that Jack Layton contributed to having Canadians pass judgement on dozen years of Liberal government, and the appeal of yet another Liberal mandate, policy and promises notwithstanding.

[Ralph Goodle] said democracy cost Canadians a universal child care program and billions for aboriginal Canadians.

Yeah, that captures it nicely. And it's true.

Does Honest Ralphie(?) think Canadians don't remember his little conversation with a few members of the Investment Dealers Association just before the Lie-beral's announcement on deciding not to change the tax rules on Income Trusts?

Lie-beral's think all Canadians are stupid who prefer to not have the fox running the hen house.

Now what happened to the NINE BILLION DOLLARS that the Cretin and the Lie-beral's sent to the, so called, Private Foundations?

Actually if Ralph wants to lay blame direct it to his own party. If they hadn't of stolen million$ illegally there would have been no reason for Layton, Harper or Duceppe to bring forth the non-confidence motion.

And oh yeah, perhaps someone should point out to Ralph the Liberal's were in power 13 years, most of it with a majority. If it was really so importatnt why wait to implement it until the parties ass is on the line?

When it comes to the most annoying person category Ralphie Goodytwoshoes takes the prize.
He's on TV regularly spouting all the things that Harper should do, never mind they're some of the same things they could/should have done when they held power.
His ass is in a bind with Dion as leader, he stomped with him at the Leadership convention, bum licking all the way.

The Lieberals just can't accept and respect the people's choice to govern when it's not themselves. Can't even understand they don't deserve power given what went down under their watch. Scandal, fraud, corruption, you name it, does not deserve rewarding.

Ralphie just doesn't get it, he's hurting bad. He should call it a day, go back to farming.

Ralph Goodale has no credibility whatsoever. Period.

David McGuinty says the Liberals will not vote down the government over the Throne Speech. He says they are not gullible or foolish enough to get into the ring with Stephen Harper. Not even an attempt to spin this. He is waving the white flag.
Ralph Goodale contradicts McGuinty and says there is no such decision made; they will wait to see the Speech. Maybe they ought to get their stories straight.

Liberals always seem to blame someone else for why they didn't get things done.

It's Layton's fault that, after thirteen years in power, the Liberals never instituted a national daycare program. It's Harper fault that, after thirteen years in power, the Liberals never passed a plan to even start complying with Kyoto.

What's most striking about the Liberal attitude is that they quite literally have not learned one thing since they lost the last election.

They blame Layton. They blame Harper. They even blame the RCMP. But they never look in the mirror and wonder if they became too arrogant and obsessed with keeping power at all cost.

The opposition benches haven't done a thing to remedy that attitude, either. I guess years of it might be in order.

Oh Ralph,

You really don't have to resort to lying in order to salvage your honour. It's very unbecoming of you.

You see, your constant bitching about the NDP would be about correct if it wasn't for one small but significant recalcitrant fact.

You see, the NDP gave you and your party an opportunity to continue to govern the country. It was your party who refused to take advantage of those opportunities. Instead of trying to be a party which was respectable to the people of Canada, your party chose to say "no more deals with those godless socialists, we're going to the polls."

Nevermind the fact that there was an offer on the table to continue governing with modest strings attached, you would have rather kicked your only chance of staying afloat in the knees as opposed to having to admit to the fact that your party did not hav the power on it's own to govern.

So, here we are now, some two years after your foolish and stupid decision and now your still operating as if your party was the only party that had a say in how the government was run. Guess where that got you Ralph, it got you to where you are right now.

You don't like it? Tough.

Do you honestly think that the NDP was interested in having the Conservatives come to power?! Seriously. Think about it. The Conservatives are ideologically anathema to the NDP and it would be a great pleasure to a number of NDP partisans to drive the knife into the collective heart of that movement and twist. But the fact of the matter is that you didn't care about defeating Conservatism, you and your lot cared about only one thing: Maintaining all the power for yourselves and keeping it away from everyone else.

Well, I hope you enjoy sitting on the backbenches Ralph, because you've made your bed and now it's time for you to lie in it. If you don't want to be there anymore, then I suggest you start getting over yourself and start actually eating some humble pie.

I'm not going to hold my breathe for you to do that though. We all know that your far too proud to swallow your own ego and actually admit that maybe you screwed up.

If you ever do change your mind and start to feel like your ready to work with the NDP again, then just know that the door is open. The only catch is that your going to have to check your ego at the door and prepare to bargain with them honestly. Otherwise you'll once again be taught about what happened when you treat your coalition partners like they are nothing.

Goodale and his ilk should be concentrating on getting Conservative crime bills passed by the old fools in the Senate, like Baker who said he wouldn't piss/pee in a bottle for Harper. Stupid talk and posturing is all they're good for.

Maybe they could get their asses in gear and think about the young Mounted Policeman who was shot by someone out on the loose who should have been behind bars or dealt with for the safety of citizens and Police who protect us.

Goodale, the Liberals and the Liberals in the Senate have blood on their hands, they're beyond the pale.
