The assumption is that Cedrika was abducted, quite possibly by a man who had been in the area attempting to enlist help from neighbourhood children to find a lost dog. Cedrika was last spotted by neighbours who said Cedrika had told them she was looking for a lost dog.
With the time that has passed, people have assumed the worst, but Quebec police had information that gives them some hope that Cedrika Provencher might still be alive:
Quebec provincial police say witnesses have reported seeing a missing nine-year-old girl accompanied by a man, which has led them to believe she may be found alive.
Insp. Martin Prud'homme told Quebec media on Wednesday that police have no concrete evidence suggesting Cedrika Provencher is dead.
Fingers crossed...
One can only hope that if Cedrika was abducted and if she is still alive, her kidnapper has some shred of conscience left. If he lets her go, in good health, to go home, whatever else lies in store for him, he can point at that one good act and find some comfort in that.
At least that's what I hope he's considering. And maybe that's in part why the police chose to go public with this information.
