I left a more detailed and opinionated comment at Jason's bog, but here I'll point out that in 1984 Brian Mulroney brought Pat Carney into the federal Cabinet.
She was born in Shanghai, China. Also, a Tory.
That would make her the first MP of "Chinese origin" (male or female) to become a member of the Cabinet and, later, to be appointed to the Senate in Ottawa.
Dion could have included in his list the federal MPs of "Chinese origin" from all of the other major parties: Conservative, NDP, and the Bloc Quebecois. Afterall, they each have been first in their parties.
