Wrapping up the Adriane Carr fake website story with an apology

Adriane Carr is a former BC Green Party leader and the candidate for the federal Green Party candidate n Vancouver Centre. In the next federal election, she'll almost certainly be facing Liberal Party incumbent Hedy Fry.

Yesterday it became common knowledge that adrianecarr.ca, a domain owned by Carr for several years, but not being used to host her main website, had been altered to display a strong endorsement of Fry from Carr.

Needless to say, the Green Party was not pleased, and Jim Harris, former leader of the Green Party, wrote on his blog hosted on the Green Party website that Hedy Fry or one of her supporters was likely responsible.

My analysis showed, though, that the likely culprit was Jayun McDowell, a former supporter of Adriane Carr and probably a Green Party supporter in the past.

Today, Jim Harris seems to agree, and has issued an apology to Hedy Fry:

Apology to Hedy Fry & Campaign Team

When eating crow it is best to do it while it is still hot.

Yesterday morning (Tuesday July 10) I blogged about an aberration on http://www.adrianecarr.ca/ – a site that implies Adriane Carr supports Hedy Fry (which is obviously untrue).

So I called on Fry to condemn this type of underhanded campaigning – and suggested it was the work of a Liberal. I loudly decried this type of thing -- as it undermines the very fabric of political discourse.

Well, research has revealed it’s not a Liberal, it’s not a friend of a Liberal campaign worker, it’s not a former high school friend of the campaign manager – it’s the work of a disgruntled former Green Party volunteer!

Hedy Fry’s office and staff were in no way responsible.

So I would like to unequivocally retract my earlier posts and apologize to Hedy Fry and to her campaign staff for having suggested or implied that they were involved in any way.

Adriane Carr who has paid for this domain name http://www.adrianecarr.ca/ for the last two years, has had staff working to rectify the situation. Happily, they got to the root of the problem and the page should be taken down within the next 24 hours.

To visit Adriane’s web site go to http://www.votecarr.ca.

I'd like to know what this disgruntled Green Party worker was trying to achieve. Chances are not good that we'll ever find out.

Update: adrianecarr.ca is now 301-redirected (a permanent redirect) to votecarr.ca.
