Will Yvo de Boer be declared an apostate by the head priests of the Church of Kyoto?

From a Liberal Party media release:

Conservative Environment Minister John Baird must release details to demonstrate how his green plan will achieve its emission reduction targets, Liberal Environment Critic David McGuinty demanded today.

"Two weeks ago, Minister Baird misled Canadians on the costs of meeting Kyoto, then he followed that up with a plan that scientists and experts around the world have panned," said Mr. McGuinty. "Until the minister can produce a single analysis that demonstrates how he will meet the targets and timelines his government is proposing, his emissions plan will never be anything more than an 'EcoFraud.'"

Even Yvo de Boer, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, questioned why Canada would offer a plan "less ambitious than the commitment it has under the Kyoto Protocol."

Indeed, why would the Conservatives offer a plan that does not meet the Kyoto goals in the timeframe negotiated by the Liberals? Perhaps the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change would find it interesting to note that the Liberals with Stephane Dion as the environment minister allowed Canadian emission levels to jump sharply, nearly 30%. Will the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change find the argument that the Liberals put Canada so far behind the starting line that there is no way the race could be won without destroying the economy a compelling one?

Apparently the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change found that argument very convincing:

A top United Nations official says he is no longer alarmed by Canada’s stand on the Kyoto Protocol now that he better understands the Conservative government’s position.

“I must admit, I was worried for some time, but I was much encouraged by the clarification,” Yvo de Boer, executive secretary to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, said in Montreal Tuesday.

He said he now understands that Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s government wasn’t rejecting the value of the Kyoto accord, but rather observed its objectives cannot be met within the target deadline.

I guess de Boer will be put on the "bad person" list by environmentalists. Bad for listening to reason. Bad for being realistic. Bad. Bad. Bad.

An apostate from the Church of Kyoto.
