Check out the new virtual digs of the Liberal Party yourself.
Definitely an improvement:
- Two basic colours (with some shading).
- Rotating pictures for variety.
- Very prominent placement of the RSS feed icon.
- Nice 3D effect on the menu bar.
- When the styling is turned off, the site is still very navigable (important for search bots).
- Lots of official Liberal Party web buttons and badges to ensure a unified branding across Liberal Party websites.
- The Liberal banner now returns to the home page instead of going to the bio of Stephane Dion.
All in all, a very nice job.
Some suggestions:
- Change the <TITLE> from Liberal.ca to something more interesting to the search engines, like "Federal Liberal Party of Canada".
- No meta keywords or meta description. Again, a search engine thing, but easy to put in.
- Some validation errors that ought to be resolved to avoid being penalized by search bots.
Actually, my suggestions are all centered on good SEO practices. It might be that the Liberal Party doesn't depend on Google and Yahoo for most of the traffic, and indeed that could be the case. If so, then optimizing for search engines is probably not a priority. On the whole, an excellent effort and the results show it.
