Dealing with the proliferation of social bookmarking with the Socializer

I've made a minor change to the social bookmarking scheme for the posts. Both bloggers and readers might find it useful.

Social bookmarking services have proliferated. There are over 40, maybe more. The big ones like Digg and del.icio.us are well known. The up-and-comers like reddit are gaining traction. Then there are ones like Furl and Spurl that are new to me, but have their fans.

I've decided to include a new link to the bottom of each of my post: "Social bookmark this page". Clicking it takes you to a new page in a new window created by the Socializer service. What you'll see is a screen presenting an icon for all the major and minor social bookmarking systems known. Well, maybe not all, but a lot of them, for sure. As a reader, you find the services you like to use and click on the icon. That will take you to your service's bookmarking page, prefilled with the URL and post title.

I hope people find it useful. For people who use social bookmarks, especially many different ones, the convenience is appealing. For bloggers struggling to choose which social bookmark services to support, consider using Socializer to eliminate the problem. And for people who don't use social bookmarking services, you might appreciate the dramatic reduction in links at the bottom of each post, as I've removed the per-service individual links.

Steve: Spurl is dead, I see you have it as a tag. Try Simpy instead. http://simpy.com/

That's what I mean, Mark. Who can keep track of all this stuff. As a tag, though, it's too late. My understanding is that once Technorati sucks in your tags, you can't do much to update them.
