MyBlogLog makes it possible to see who is coming by to see the blog:

You probably know a ton about your favorite bloggers - what they think about the subjects they write about, maybe some of their work and life history... you may even know what toothpaste they use. But how much do you know about all the other people who read their blogs? And how much do they know about you?

For all this talk of a global conversation throughout the blogosphere, there's a lot to be desired. It's a two-tiered system, with bloggers talking amongst each other and the majority of the readers looking on from the fringes. You may get to call out something from the sidelines by leaving a comment, but things could be so much better. For everyone.

MyBlogLog is launching this new Communities service to empower authors and readers to operate at the same level. For the first time, everyone who reads a web site or blog can learn about and engage with one another, and in the process take the conversation to a whole new level.

The idea here is to create an account on MyBlogLog, provide some information, and start reading. MyBlogLog provides communities to join, which might be of particular interest to a new blogger looking to get some readership. For bloggers, we can see who is coming by, and who is returning. More stats are provided to help identify which posts were considered particularly interesting. Readers can see who else is interested in the same topic, and make connections or find new blogs to read. Their participation in the blogging experience now gets a lot more attention.

MyBlogLog is new and growing, so it hasn't suffered from some of the problems older social networks like Digg have encountered, and hopefully can avoid some of those pitfalls.

I don't have high expectations of MyBlogLog, but nothing I've seen so far makes me think I've made a mistake signing up. Check it out yourself and see if it can do something for you.
