Jason Cherniak is taking some heat for calling Stephen Harper an asshole. He tries to justify it by saying he was really, really mad:
I cannot describe how absolutely outraged I am. This is more than a low blow. This is like skipping a fight to beat up the opposing boxer's mother.
I'm going to get into much more detail tomorrow. However, for now I have just one further comment. If you don't think it is proper to call the Prime Minister an "asshole" out of respect for the office, then surely you also agree that an asshole shouldn't be in the office in the first place.
I'm going to jump to Jason's defense. Not because I think he's justified, but because we're really making a mountain out of what is, for Jason Cherniak, a molehill. If Jason was really that outraged, he would have said a lot worse.
Consider this exchange from October 2005. "Boag" is our up-and-coming political superstar for the Liberal Party of Canada, Jason Cherniak:
Adehmarvellous: This forum software lets us run several discussion boards at once... this is the general "3WE FORUM" one, but if you have any others you'd like to establish, let me know. I'd like one about how much chow sucks, but i don't think there's much incentive to post to it with regularity. The title would pretty much say it all.
Maybe one just devoted to zoot and boag's canadian politics crap? If they need a place to discuss this, at least let it not be among the proper 3WE discussion.
Beowulf: Duncan, don't tell me that you harnessed all of your imagination into coming up with the username Duncan. We don't want generic Duncans around here. We want LORD OF OUTRAGE.
Please go outrage on Zoot and Boag if they start up political discussions again. Make them take it to Boag's blog.
Boag: I like the new forum.
However, Wulf, I am sick and tired of you feigning superiority while you sit in Kingston sucking donkey dick and filching little boys. Please just do us all a favour and shove a hot poker up your ass!
What prompted this? A comment that Jason Cherniak had put on a few pounds:
Boag: I actually used to write "Wolf", but I thought that the final decision was that I was wrong. The vitriol comes from my last encounter with the man:
Quote:
Drunken Wolf ambles up and stammers, "What happened to thin Boag? How much do you weight now, BOAG?"
Not quite drunk yet, I respond, "180 pounds. How much do you weigh, Wolf?"
With a confused look, Wolf answers, "Oh, I weigh 180 pounds too," and stumbles away.
Notice the mixture of attempted insult and cruelty along with successful stupidity and embarassment. It was not a pretty sight.
And for that Beowulf aka Wulf aka Wolf is on the receiving end of the bestiality-pedophile-sodomy rant.
Stephen Harper got off easy, I'd say. Our lawyer with a double major is quite the potty mouth.
You might wonder if this is typical language on the forum. Maybe, but I haven't seen it. In any case, it's certainly against policy:

Wow.
Well, he's certainly covering all the bases.
As Dan Cook writes, meet Jason Cherniak!

Pssst! Just don't say anything about Jason's weight. He really hates that.
