While I was working on the Abotech story, I got word of an RCMP raid on the home of Frank Brazeau. At the time, there was no obvious connection to the pension scandal that is now top news in Canada. Now looking back on it, the raid takes on a different complexion.
I'll wait...done?
OK, now back on October 25, 2005, I got an interesting email, which read in part:
I do know that the RCMP came to the reserve at Frank's house [on the Kitigan Zibi reserve just outside of Maniwaki, Quebec] and seized his PC and laptop after the report [KPMG audit] came out.
Now I was never ever to get confirmation that the raid took place, and certainly no charges were laid, so I figured if the raid happened, nothing of a criminal nature was found.
But now I have to wonder.
Did the raid dig up evidence concerning the mismanagement of the pension fund, evidence that won't ever be seen?
Maybe someone who was there, or who has knowledge of the events, can recall the details.

Listened to the interview with the mounty who made the pension fund complaints to committee. He said that siome investigation was done previously in looking at fund mismanagement but that there were insufficient grounds to file charges...this was 2004-2005.

Steve, why aren't you working for the National Post or Macleans or something like that? You should be well paid for some of this work that you are doing.
