Something that has been bothering me for some time is the debasement of political dialogue. I, for one, would like to see that change.

I'm aiming this at critics of the Liberal Party. I'm one of them. Let's make a concerted effort to see the use of "Lieberals" and "Lie-berals" and all the variants disappear from common use. I'd love to see "right whiner" (in place of "right winger") also go, but the people who use terms like that don't listen to me, so I'll focus on what's doable.

Maybe it's considered clever to incorporate "lie" in the word Liberal, but really, does it add anything to the discussion? Do you actually say "Lieberal" when you are talking? I bet you don't. Name calling is generally a sign that you've lost the argument. Leave it to the other guys. I would really like to see comments from people on Canada's right to avoid silly spelling tricks.

No one who uses "Lieberal" or any of its variants or any other pun will be ejected from this blog. Nor will I bring this up again, either as a post or as a comment, though as always I reserve the right to intervene if tempers get too high and the language gets out of control. Fortunately, that has almost never happened in three years of blogging. It is because the level of commentary on this blog is so good that I think it would take only a small effort to write like the thoughtful people we are, and not diminish our message with cheap cracks.

That's all. Just something I've wanted to say for a while.
