So here is a list of changes. Most of the changes have been applied to the individual post pages -- it is simpler than the home page, and of course most people spend time reading there.
- The stark black-and-white layout has been replaced with shading and other colour combinations. Hopefully it is easier on the eyes.
- The subwindows are expandable instead of fixed in size. This eliminates the multiple scroll bars that made navigation such a chore.
- A lot of optimization of slices, including elimination of extra slices. This will improve load times.
- Bugs in Opera and IE6/7 have been fixed.
More changes on the way to bring the home page in line, as well as to implement the remaining pages.
For those who like the new design, hopefully this is even better. For those who had issues with the new design, hopefully this helps you turn the corner. For those who absolutely hate it, well, I doubt I can do enough to change your mind. But one of the reasons I started blogging was to improve my skills with web development and design. When I do these changes, I hope it is for your benefit, but it is also an exercise for me to see if I can implement certain features. Some will remain, some might be removed when I'm satisfied that I've mastered a particular feature or skill. It might seem selfish of me, but I spend a lot of time on the blog, and I like to think I've earned the privilege to take my blog out for a test drive now and again.
