A dad taking his boy to an exciting Leafs game.
It doesn't get more Canadian than that.
Bet Stephen Harper doesn't feel short-changed in not having French citizenship.
Postscript: For those who are wondering, it's not my video. Some people think it is. Someone sent it to me and I put it up. And Simon captures it well -- how a man spends his time speak volumes about his character. Stephen Harper is well educated, but has not had the love of the Game learned out of him, so to speak. And he's trying to do things with his son that will do more to build his son's character than all the political debates that Pierre Trudeau apparently had with his kids (according to Justin). Things like loyalty to the team, the importance of shared experience, how people from many walks of life still have so much that can bind them together. Things all sons can learn from their fathers, not just fathers who are prime ministers.
I'm somewhat disappointed that I had to write all this -- I would have thought it was obvious what I was getting at. But some people think this has to do with being a Leafs fan. Oh well. Too subtle, I suppose.

File this one as a big "So What". So he went to a Leafs game. So?
I went to a Canadiens' game in December. Does this confer on me some political advantage?

Did you notice how cold and unemotional PM Harper was when a goal was scored? He didn't raise his hands up in the air at all, like those around him. He's one of the best Prime Ministers this country has, and if people were honest, they would admit it, rather than stubbornly not be able to admit that they were wrong.

I envy Harper. He had the ultimate boys night out when he and a few no-name backbenchers flew on the fancy government jet from Ottawa to Edmonton for an Oiler playoff game and then got back on the jet and flew back to Ottawa. A good time was had by all. He's really really canadian.

MAn, that is the lamest video of all. I think Harper eats doughnuts. I can hardly wait for "ONE MAN" to be for Tim Hortons. I hope they do a Tim Hortons for Harper video. That would be really impressive and would undoubtedly sway the electorate.

Hey Steve,
That music is by Gary Glitter. You know, the guy who has been convicted on child pornography charges in the UK and is now listed as a sex offender. He was later evicted from both Cambodia and Vietnam after being charged with child sex abuse charges in those countries. The judge said that Glitter's "appetite for child porn was, to be blunt, voracoius."
Given you association of Dion with cocaine addicts, shouldn't we be questioning why Harper's supporters link him with a child porn freak?

The Leafs suck, and clearly, so does Harper.

Regardless of Gary Glitters criminal activities, that music is probably played in every professional franchise arena in North America. There are very few songs that will get a crowd worked up like that one.
The fact that the Prime Minister is a Leafs fan is hard to take though.

I think we may have found the Liberal Party commercial to be aired everywhere in Canada outside the GTA next election. ;-)

Harper's time off is well his time off.
What teams he watches or enjoys and how he spends his quality time with his son is nobody's business but his.
The fact that you see him out in public sans some big power entourage following him around and drawing unnecesary attention shows much about the man to his credit.
The fact that he can ably handle the publicity and at the same time ease his son's discomfort at being panned on camera speaks volumes as a father.
The problem with too many folks is that they're out to capture at all costs the negative and thrust it down the throats of others in the guise of being in the know.
The truth is that they are nothing more than small minds playing small games of 'look at me'
Canadians should take a good look at their country and where it has been headed for a long time now.
Then they might realise that Harper has a genuine caring for this country and is the best man for the job at this time.
And when he is no longer the best choice,I'm sure he will be the first to realize it and graciously step down.
If not I'm sure his wife will tell him.

Which also helps to explain why we probably won't see Dion at a Habs game. :D

Simon - I particularly agee with this part of your comment.

PM Harper is so far ahead of most Liberals in smarts, class and intelligence ,that they can only heap scorn on him.I can only feel sorry for them as they are missing out on one of the truly great men of our time.It is a sad commentary on how low some Canadians have sunk, that they will vote for corruption and thieves, over honesty & caring.

It is trying to have a PM who isn't a stuck up rich kid from Quebec isn't it?
Normal Canadians are just awful.
