When Eve's disappearance was reported in a Toronto Police bulletin, the police mentioned that she frequented chat rooms online. I wondered if this unusual bit of information was intended to convey a means of getting in touch with her, or if it was a veiled warning about the circumstances of her disappearance.
It turned out to be former, not the latter, but according to a third friend of Eve's who has contacted me, this has been carried by the main stream press:
I am one of Eve's (we call her Eve) closest friends and I appreciate your concern with her. I have read your blog posted on October 28 about my friend Eva Ho, who is missing along with the 2 other guys. Yesterday, my parents showed me an article on Sing Tao Chinese newspaper. They wrote an article straight off from your blog and they have misinterpreted some of information written by the anonymous sender. They have misinterpreted the grammatical errors and has given out false information to the public. They have made it seem like Eve has been kidnapped by internet predators and it is absolutely not true. The contacts that are on her MSN are her friends including me.
Hopefully the Sing Tao can sort this out. It's important, because the true circumstances of Eve's disappearance might be very grim indeed, but utterly unrelated to the problem of online predators:
Eve went missing on August 14 and I was the last person she contacted at 7:45 PM. She is missing with her boyfriend, Jackie Li and her childhood friend Kevin Lim. Kevin Lim is also Jackie's friend. My friends and I believe that their disappearance relates to the murder of Philip Ho Sing Sit. Who went missing in September of 2005 and his body was found on August 9th 2006, 5 days before 3 of my friends (Eve and party) went missing. Their disappearance and the discovery of Philip was in the same time frame and as led York Region Investigators (Philip's Case) and Toronto Police (Eve's Case) to believe that they are related. The 3 people missing and also myself know Philip as a friend.
Also, relating to your article. The two boys were both over 18 years old and I also contact with both their parents. Yes, they have been missing for 2 months like Eve. No one knows their whereabouts. Or people are keeping their mouth shut.
Philip Ho Sing Sit met a violent end:
A Toronto teen reported missing nearly a year ago is now considered a homicide victim after police identified human remains found in King Township.
York Region police announced Friday that examination at the Centre of Forensic Sciences had identified remains found on a rural property in the King Rd. and Weston Rd. area Aug. 9 as those of 17-year-old Phillip Ho Sing Sit.
Police are not saying exactly how he died.
Sit's family reported him missing to Toronto Police when he told them he was going out with some friends early in the morning of September 24, 2005 and then never returned, police said.
Toronto Police will not comment on the original missing person case, saying they do not want to jeopardize York Region's homicide investigation.
Homicide investigators are now trying to trace the teen's last steps. He was known to spend time in Kensington Market and the Eaton Centre in downtown Toronto as well as the Pacific Mall and Metro Square in Markham, police said.
No more information on Philip Ho Sing Sit is available on the web as far as I can tell. All we know that a few days after Philip's remains were found, three of his friends went missing, including Eve.
As far as we know, that is all the police know as well.
If Eve's friends are right, and there is a link, it looks bad for Eve Ho, as well as for Kevin Lim and Jackie Li.
