I got to try a Segway today, and I have to say, it was very cool.

Main Story

Most of us have seen the Segway Human Transporter shown on the news, but few of us have ever seen one. Geosign had one in the cafeteria, and I got to take it for a spin.

It was cool. I mean laugh-out-loud please-give-me-another-turn cool.

I am proud to say I did not fall down. It took a few moments to get the balance right, but once that was done, the device was surprisingly easy to maneuver. The trick is posture -- stay straight, and the Segway is very tame. All you have to do is think about going forward or turning, and the subtle shifts in your position are picked up and the Segway gently goes in the direction you want to go.

Are Segways going to change the world? Who knows? But whereas before I would have scoffed, having been on one, I have to say it might just pull it off.
