Ralph Goodale: Tories are thieves and liars

Ralph Goodale calls the Conservative cabinet a bunch of thieves and liars. Why? Because they haven't been spending enough of our money on fancy dinners and free flights. Got that? All that money that isn't theirs, waiting to be spent...it just ain't normal!

From the Globe and Mail:

A number of Conservative ministers recorded zero hospitality in the three-month summer quarter, including Public Works Minister Michael Fortier, Loyola Hearn at Fisheries and House Leader Rob Nicholson.

When they sat in opposition, the Tories dined out on tales of then-immigration minister Joe Volpe’s $138 pizzas, and former Mint president David Dingwall’s $800 dinners for two.

The entire cabinet is, well, cheap. They simply do not spend much of the money taken in the way of taxes from hard working Canadian families. You know, the "working Canadians" that the Liberals and the NDP keep saying they are working so hard to protect from the clutches of the greedy Tories.

Well, amazingly, frugality is seen as a fault:

Ralph Goodale, the former Liberal finance minister who instituted the quarterly reporting requirement in 2004, said Monday he finds the latest posted results odd.

“I think there are some questions to be asked here about whether the reporting process is being followed exactly as it is intended to be followed, and whether the government is giving Canadians the whole story and the straight goods.”

Did Ralph Goodale just call the government a bunch of thieves and liars on the basis that they have not spent enough of our money?

You know, I would demand to see some evidence to support that claim. If Goodale called me a liar, suggested that I was somehow cooking the books, somehow hiding money from Canadians, somehow benefiting from tax dollars being misspent and going unreported, somehow...oh wait...never mind.

I suppose if anyone would be able to spot a gross violation of the public trust, it would be a Liberal. Here's an idea. Why don't you write to Ralph Goodale and let him know that he should use that keen sense of smell, the one that served him so well in December 2005, to prove that those Tories are up to something. I mean, how could anyone have access to so much money that isn't theirs, and not spend it.

It's unnatural! Trust Canada's natural governing party to know.

Ralph who?

Oh, oh, oh ya that guy. Wasn't he important once, along time ago far far away in a distant galaxy....

The Liberals know how stupid this is. They just need some spin for their drooling followers to cling too.

Ever wonder what these people think of us Canadians? You shouldn't insult Goodale for inane comments like this; you should look at the people who believe it. The Liberals must think Canadians are stupid. Why do we keep proving them right?

So Ralph wants an audit? Is that what he is asking for? Great! Bring it on. But why stop there, why not go dive into the foundations and corporations currently firewalled off?

Say, where is that Tsunami money? Any idea Ralph?

I took your advice, Steve, and e-mailed Ralphie.

I told him that he had my sympathy, seeing as it WOULD be difficult to understand, after the Liberals' generous wining and dining of themselves, their friends, and family members, that members of the CPC were much more cognizant of the fact that hospitality allowances come straight out of the pockets of struggling taxpayers.

I pointed out that the CPC doesn't have the same voracious appetites the Librano$ do (I used their official name, Liberals), and that with Prime Minister Stephen Harper at the head of the government table, it is not "business as usual" a la Bada Bing (I didn't actually word it that way).

I pointed out, amazing that this would be necessary, that the tax monies collected by the government do not belong to the government, as the Librano$ seemed to think, but to the people of Canada, something the CPC well understands and respects. I suggested that rather than criticize the CPC government, the Libs could take a page from the CPC book, to read and inwardly digest.

Do you think he'll bite?

Right On , These Guys cannot fathom that any Government could operate beyond the likes of scandal ,boondogles, the gun registry , adscam , incometrust , Dingwall gate , and God knows what in between.

When this is all they can muster , it speaks to distrust we should have toward Liberals , and the confidence we can have with our NEW GOVERNMENT. I think that the only crap that Ralph smells is comming from the seat of his own pants.

Speaking of Ralphie, what ever happened with that
whole Income Trust scandal....?

The little Liberal piggies are having a hard time coming to grips with the fact that the Tories don't have their snouts in the trough. If the Libranos were smart, they would shut up instead of making such assinine comments - it just serves to make them look worse.

"Ralph Goodale calls the Conservative cabinet a bunch of thieves and liars"

:-)

The fact that any cabinet member of the last federal liberal crime spree can point a finger outward and yell "theif and liar" is a living testament to the fact these creatures have no sense of moral reality.

If anyone would know about lying, cheating and stealing it would be Ralphie . . . he was the spider at the centre of the web of the most corrupt government this country has ever known.

He is upset that he has nothing to shoot at in question period.....

Now if he thinks they are hiding their expenditures somewhere else....I hope he isnt correct. I think it unlikely, you would have to be a cement head like Tie Domi not to know that people are going to be watching you like a hawk when you are in a high profile position.

LOL, if this is all they have to criticize? Oh man, I sure hope Canadians appreciate how much things have changed.

That Ralph - I really have to shake my head! But then, I should have expected nothing less from the person, who as leader of the Saskatchewan Liberals in 1982, led that party to it's worst ever defeat - 0 seats and less than five per cent of the vote.

Ralphy Goodale has reduced himself to a small-time jerk. He looked like a big time jerk running around at the ass of Paul Martin on the election stump.

They're out desperately trying to dig up bones and coming up empty, so false accusations is the best thay can do.

Steve, a true saying from my Father, circa 1958, was
"It's so easy to spend someone else's money..."

There is a very pernicious concept floating around the minds of a signifigant minority of voters- it's the idea that "The Government" has this huge "bag O' goodies"-- mainly money, like unto a Cornocopia, that it is just waiting to bestow upon whatever group that shouts the loudest.

Unfortunately, as we all know, the Government has no money of its own- only what it can extract by means foul and fair from families and businesses...

I don't think there's any doubt that Goodale sincerely believes what he says, and that's the most revealing thing of all.

To him -- and Liberals as a species -- it's just not conceivable that with all that money around, one wouldn't use it as one's own. What could be more natural?

He really believes that the only possible explanation is that the Conservatives are lying. In his world there's no other way.

Always love those classic liberal arguments, the lack of evidence is the evidence.
