Good news for the Liberal Party:
The Bloc Quebecois says it will support the softwood lumber deal, meaning the Conservative government should survive a confidence vote in the Commons on the issue.
The Conservatives and the Bloc would have enough votes on Sept. 18 to defeat the Liberals and the NDP who have said they will vote against the bill to implement the Canadian-U.S. agreement.
Now the Liberals can afford to vote as a united party against the deal and not risk fighting an election without a leader and without any money. If the BQ has decide to sit on their hands instead (I doubt they would have voted against a deal most Quebec lumber companies like), then the Liberals and the NDP would have outvoted the Conservatives by six. That means the Liberals would have had to find four MPs who would have "broke ranks" to vote with the Conservatives and avoid that election.
Another confidence vote win for this minority Conservative government.
