He didn't do it. That was obvious on August 17.
John Mark Karr has been cleared of any involvement in the JonBenet Ramsey murder. He faces other child pornography charges, but with the media circus surrounding the Ramsey case, he'll never get a fair trial, and he'll probably walk free. Thanks to Boulder prosecutor Mary Lacy, he'll be walking to a school near you.
John Mark Karr will not be facing any charges whatsoever concerning the murder of JonBenet Ramsey:
9NEWS confirmed from two sources Monday that John Mark Karr's DNA did not match the samples taken from the crime scene in the JonBenet Ramsey murder case.
Samples of Karr's saliva and hair were taken in Boulder after his arrival on Thursday. Those samples were tested over the weekend inside the Denver Police Department's Crime lab.
9NEWS has confirmed that Karr's DNA is ruled out as the foreign DNA left on JonBenet Ramsey's body when she was murdered in December 1996.
He's still being held on child pornography charges laid against him by California authorities. But he won't pay for any crimes he might have committed for the simple reason that it will be impossible for Karr to get a fair trial. Any jury pool is irredeemably tainted by the publicity.
And Karr's lawyer would be right.
Karr will probably walk free from the cihild pornography charges and from the charges laid against him in Thailand:
Thailand police arrested John Mark Karr after seeing him with a young girl sitting on his lap in a school, a source told 9NEWS.
This was after a lengthy surveillance based on an email conversation:
The arrest came after an escalating exchange of e-mails and contacts with Karr, who was using an online alias.
Karr, corresponding as "Daxis" with University of Colorado Professor Michael Tracey, said that the girl reminded him of JonBenet Ramsey, and that he had the same feelings about her as he had about JonBenet.
"He was falling love again" with the girl, the source said.
So he was picked up by Thai authorities and faced Thai justice for feeling up a little girl.
Back on August 17, I wrote:
Remember, that Karr was picked up for sexual assault and then blurted out his Ramsey "confession":
He was being held on an unrelated sexual assault charge when he confessed to the JonBenet murder.
I have to wonder whether he had the "Ramsey confession" in his back pocket, as it were, ready to be used when, inevitably, he would be facing Thai justice for whatever kinky stuff he was up. A hastily arranged trip to the US where the case falls apart, perhaps a short stint on a mischief charge, and then he is a free man.
Sounds like a plan.
Don't you hate it when a perv's plan comes together.
Now he'll walk free and to a school near you.
But he couldn't have done it all by himself. Let's blow raspberries at the Boulder prosecutors who couldn't wait for the results of the DNA test before getting Karr out of Thailand, and who somehow allowed the Thai authorities to turn this into a circus, but worst of all, allowed themselves to become part of the circus:
Governor [Bill] Owens [of Colorado] released a statement about the developments in the case Monday afternoon:
"Unfortunately, the hysterics surrounding John Mark Karr served only to distract Boulder officials from doing their job which should be solving the murder of JonBenet Ramsey. I find it incredible that Boulder authorities wasted thousands of taxpayer dollars to bring Karr to Colorado given such a lack of evidence. Mary Lacy should be held accountable for the most extravagant and expensive DNA test in Colorado history."
Yeah, what I said.

Too bad.
It's not all bad news. He will be watched in the US. In Thailand, at least the police have ended his career there.

Steve, I was 100% in the belief this guy didn't do it. He needed an out from Thailand and the ploy worked.
But I still want to know why we care in Canada. This is just some whack job that has covered every major press front page in the USA AND CANADA??
I ask why?? Everytime something like this happens, the media circus swarming it is so the media is not looking at something bigger and more important.

Hey the Thailand police got rid of him... permanetly, and they look like the good guys... how is this bad from their perspective.
Whats the real crime here is how badly the investigators have screwed up the entire Ramsey case. I think we've all seen to many cases where the police "fixate" on the "cuplrit" to the exclusion of all other possiblities...

I think the least the US authorities can do is return Mr. Karr to Thailand. For free, but economy class this time. Let the Thais decide what they wish to do with him. If the California DA wants him, they can pay for Karr to come from Thailand.
