The CBC apologizes

Stephen Taylor shames the CBC into a half-hearted apology for skewed reporting.

I'm another person who wrote the CBC ombudsman, who referred my complaint to the exec. producer, whose lackey answered me with such a load of self-serving crap that I just deleted the email with a
"Ah, what's the use?"

But I no longer watch the CBC, ever, and intend to pressure the government to cut off all funding to this vile propaganda-spouting organization. Thank gawd we can now receive Fox News; I can tune to CTV for 15 mins for local news, then switch to a real newscast on Fox the rest of the time.

Any chance, Alienated, you could write to some of the sponsors of the CBC (Crap Begets Crap) to tell them you are not and will not watch the CBC, and that you want them to know that. And that you will be mentioning to other non-fans of the CBC who these sponsors are, so that you and they can all make a concerted effort not to buy their products?

That would be the antidote to "Ah, what's the use?" That's what the CBC is wanting us to do, as they whistle all the way to the bank to pocket the one billion $$$ we suckered Canadians are giving them EVERY YEAR.

One more thought (there's been a lot of discussion on other blogs about the CBC "apology," especially over at SDA):

I think we need to start a Christina Lawand Watch, to monitor every word, every gesture, every bit of body language in any report she makes. We need to continue to let the CBC know when her coverage is biased or unfair or misprepresents an issue or is incomplete.

Lawand should have apologized herself, she should be fired or demoted, but knowing the arrogance of the CBC and its chronic inability to be accountable for its biases, this is not likely to happen.

But if Lawand knows she's being watched and that everything she says is under scrutiny, it's going to make her a lot less likely to make the kind of gross misjudgment she did on August 4th, when she thought she could blindside the Prime Minister with impunity.

Never again.

PS--Keith Boag is looking spooked about the Liberals' confusion. 'Looks good on him. He just may be backing the wrong horse this time and he's not used to that.

I was thinking maybe it might be time to create a Walter Duranty prize in Journalism for the news person and/or organization that tells the most outlandish lies to promote their personal agenda.

Not sure if it would be legal to use his name, but it sure would be fun to have monthly votes on which news person/organization is most deserving of the prize on that given month.

As with Deb Frisch I ask of Lawand - if Harper is as evil as she thinks he is, why does she stoop to "massaging" (is that CBC-speak enough?) the story?

What was the name of the Iraqui communications guy who inflinchingly reported pretty well the opposite of what was really going on? maybe that would be a good name for the award.

We shouldn't give much more thought to second rate spewers of news like Lawand, they are merely tools of the CBC management used to screw the people who pay the bucks in hopes of getting the truthful factual events at home and abroad. That's the reason an extreme makeover is in order. That doesn't mean we should give up checking them on every report to serve them notice we are onto their sneaky dirt and we have dirt-busters at the ready, like Steve Janke and Stephen Taylor as great examples.

The Libs can no longer count on the CBC and other media who wish to skew the news, we have them under surveilance.

ian: You would be looking for "Comical Ali"

Also, Christina Lawand has lost unretrievable credibility, knowingly or not. If she was not aware of what she was reporting or what was coming out of her mouth , SHE IS NOT FIT FOR THE JOB. If she was aware of the biased cut and paste report of the event SHE IS NOT FIT FOR THE JOB.

We have a Prime Minister with a superior mind and he cannot be manipulated. It's driving the likes of Boag, Mansbridge, Newman, especially Newman, to distraction. They just can't handle being out of the loop and all palsy with the Members of parliament . The PPG are beside themselves.

I jsut wandered into this site. Nice job.
Anyways I had caught the original story but missed the apoligy. Unfortunatly this is not only a "Christina Lawand" issue with the CBC but a CBC issue. The CBC has no idea what non-biased means. Maybe the liberal Canada of Canada could fund it.
It may be time to stop giving tax payers money to the CBC and bring something useful to Canada like HBO.
