Liberal Party youth executive wants to purge the party of Zionists

An executive member of the Young Liberals of Canada (British Columbia) is apologizing for a venomous comment left on a blog arguing for a purge of Zionists who live off the blood of the innocent from the Liberal Party. Unfortunately for the Liberal Party, this is not an isolated incident -- though it might be the closest an official of the party has come to using the blood libel.

[Hat tip to Warren Kinsella for this]

From the LongWalk (update: the LongWalk has been taken down -- use the cached Google image):

Thomas Hubert is TLW’s founder and editor-in-chief. He is a resident of the Vancouver area and a student of political science at Kwantlen University College. Thomas joined the New Democratic Party at 14 and was active with the NDP for a number of years, primarily as president of the Delta-Richmond East federal riding association. Thomas left the NDP and joined the Liberal Party of Canada in May of 2006, and is now VP of Communications for the Young Liberals of Canada in BC. He is a big supporter of leadership candidate Gerard Kennedy.

As a VP of Communications, you would think Thomas Hubert would know better than most how to best communicate clearly and concisely.

How do you explain this?

At 12:44 PM, Thomas said...

The Liberal Party is stronger without these violent Zionists in our party. I am glad for them to cease influencing our foreign policy so we are free to promote Canadian values of peace. It amazes me that this community is so absurdly selfish. The only issue that matters to them is the defence of a "state" that survives on the blood of innocent people. Shameful.

Thomas @ thelongwalk.ca

That appears on Jason Cherniak's blog, in response to an examination by Jason of a Toronto Star piece on how many long time supporters of the Liberal Party in the Jewish community were switching their loyalty to the Conservatives in response to Stephen Harper's unequivocal support of Israel.

Recent comments from other Liberals in support of Hezbollah aren't going to help matters.

But for Thomas Hubert, this was a great opportunity to purge the party of those insidious Zionists! With their tendrils of influence extending through Liberal foreign policy, agitating for war where there otherwise would be peace (because we all know that the Zionists are to blame for violence in the Middle East, what with their existing and such). Surviving on the blood of others -- Hubert is a hair away from dusting off the old blood libel.

And of course theose Jews are selfish, not wanting to be destroyed and all that. But then Jews have always been a greedy lot. Everyone knows that.

Well, Thomas Hubert has apologized (update: the LongWalk has been taken down, so we are limited to this record):

I would like to offer a full and unequivocal apology for comments I made earlier on other blogs regarding certain Liberals’ perspectives on the conflict in Middle East. I acknowledge and regret the fact that I crossed a line and that my writing came across in a manner I did not at all intend. I wrote the comments when I was impulsively angry that anyone would be leaving the Liberal Party over a foreign polic advocating peace and neutrality.

To clarify, I think it is important that all of us reject violence as a means of achieving objectives, regardless of our beliefs on conflicts abroad. Balance, objectivity, respect and a commitment to peace and social justice should all be cornerstones of both our party? and our country? position when it comes to solving this and any violent conflict.

I would like to apologize to any offended by those earlier comments, and once again, I am sorry that my comments were written in a way that allowed them to be taken offensively by anyone.

The question is whether Hubert has done enough. The problem for Hubert is that his comments don't seem to be isolated. When Liberal MP Boris Wrzesnewskyj calls for Hezbollah to be removed from the list of terrorist organizations following his "fact finding" trip to Syria, you have to wonder just how many Liberals have serious problems with having Jews, or at least Jews who support Israel, as members of the Liberal Party.

Hubert's sin might have been to actually say it out loud using language dripping with so much venom. In any case, you can read the comments where many are debating whether Hubert has to resign (update: the LongWalk has been taken down, so we've lost a record of that coversation).

Hubert is a small fish. Offering him up as a sacrifice to appease offended Jewish Liberals, and the rest of us for that matter, is going to seem miserly, as long as MPs like Wrzesnewskyj are allowed to act as cheerleaders for terrorist groups who launch rockets loaded with ball-bearings into towns and villages.

Good post, Steve. I will just add: Thank the Good Lord and sane Canadian voters who voted for Adults (Conservative) in the last Fed election here - these racist, anger challanged teenagers are out of the governing business here in the beautiful nation of Canada. I would be a nervous wreck if paulie and his minnions had been running the show thoughout this past year. It is a wonderful feeling to be PROUD of our Prime Minister and to respect the decisions he and his government make. The frinzied, driven, fanatical, hate driven Liberano/Dipper/blockhead crowds should read some of Leon Uris books (some of those in Quebec, who are Irish immigrants, might like to read 'Trinity' and 'Redeption' along with 'The Haj' , 'Mila 18' and 'Exodus'. Many people in Canada forget that Napolion's campaigns and the French Revolution cut French immigration to Canada in the late 1700s. The Irish, with a legitimate hate of the English populated much of Quebec ( learning French in exchange for the recognition of the Roman Catholic church). Compare and contrast:the blood stained histories of Ireland and Isreal.

Shades of 1935...

I love nature and all it's many wonders.

Watching Liberals eat their young is but one of the joys afforded those who are cognizant of their surroundings.

More and more it seems that whatever George Bush or the United States is FOR, then the Liberals and the NDP are AGAINST it. George is pro-Israel, therefore the Canadian left is against. I have a feeling if Bush came out saying he is FOR free chocolate ice-cream to be distributed one day a year to every child, the Libs and NDP would find a reason to be against it just because George is for it. This is oversimplifying things, I know, but the U.S. has been so demonized by the left that one has to wonder!

Rob R,

A good one..man...I think Warren Kinsella would like that.

What a good chuckle..and summary.

It is truely a sad day when an elected official in a free democracy would rather side with an outlaw terrorist organization rather than his own country and its people. A majority of Canadians do not support Hezbollah and DO support the Prime Ministers stance on the Middle East. I am guessing that the "new" LPC is all about hatred and anti-semitism. Whose next on their hit list.....your guess is as good as mine.

Is there a more complete master plan written down somewhere. The plan on how we stop radical Islam's plans with objectivity, respect, peace and social justice. I'd sure like to see it. It makes me wonder if people that say this stuff actually have any grasp of what is going on in the world today.

On the basis of lobbying by other Liberals, most notably Warren Kinsella, Scott Brison, Richard Diamond and myself, Thomas has resigned his position. I am going to write up the full story sometime this evening.

Posted by: Jason Cherniak at August 21, 2006 07:11 PM

Wow, a full blown resignation and the end of a budding political career.

Odie, keep on eye on a certain Montreal (currently) Liberal MP.

Steve, seems the Liberals are DOA regardless of how many hate-mongering 'Klanders' they harbour.

The anti-zionist malaise that envelops the Liberal Party of Canada is indicative of the whole, no matter what self-aggrandizing Liberal leadership hopefuls may say, they are guilty by association in most voters eyes.

Say a prayer for my son Logan instead, he passed away last Tuesday, he was in his tenth year. I miss him already.

Thomas Hubert said, "To clarify, I think it is important that all of us reject violence as a means of achieving objectives, regardless of our beliefs on conflicts abroad."

That's a rich statement, coming from a guy whose posts on his blog and on others' blogs have been intemperate and, frankly, violent against Israel and Jewish people.

As a VP of Communications for the Young Liberals of Canada, you'd think he'd have a rudimentary understanding of what's acceptable and what's downright contemptible when it comes to commenting on an individual or group. You'd think he'd have some idea, at least, of the power of words. How did he get to the position of VP of Communications??????

What's really scary about this, is how out of touch this guy is, and that he held (until earlier today) an official position in the Liberal Party of Canada--in their Young Liberals wing. Was he just being incredibly stupid, insensitive, and offensive or is this the way Liberals talk about Israel all the time?

If Mr. Hubert genuinely wants the Liberal Party "to promote Canadian values of peace," then he'd better get it through his head that "peace" starts with him, at home, right here in Canada. I'm not making this up.

His ignorance and his arrogance are breathtaking, something I'm beginning to think about the whole Liberal Party of Canada. Where's the outrage from Librano MPs? I'm watching.

Man, How I wish they would keep this kind of stupidity for election period...All these great moments...wasted...I thought they had a great thing going during Polly Martino last hurrah...
