Provincial Liberals plan to establish a casino in Caledonia?

Is the secret plan developed by Dalton McGuinty's Liberal government to resolve the Caledonia land dispute now out in the open? What does it say about the true motives of the people occupying the land? What does it say about Dalton McGuinty, the police, and how future issues like this one are likely to be handled? Are we in for more of the same? You decide.

Caledonia Wake Up Call claims to have come into possession of the provincial government's plan to resolve the land dispute in Caledonia. I can't vouch for the credibility of the source, since I don't know who the source is, but it tells an interesting story of just how Premier Dalton McGuinty is handling the situation. Here are some of the more telling elements:

The Douglas Estates will become an Economic Enterprise Center with the main item a CASINO. The Province will run the place and share revenue with the CONFEDERATE CHIEFS and Haldimand Council. No word of the Casino will be given to the public until after 2007 election.

No word of Ken Hill's role in this part of the plan.

The Haldimand Council (who have censured Marie Trainer -the Liberal party is out to get rid of Marie Trainer because they can’t control her) have been told by the Liberal Party if they keep their months shut and support the Liberal Plan the County will be given a Pool and Recreation Center with no strings attached.

Seems like Haldimand Council can be bought off pretty cheaply. If true, the Council won't have too many friends among the residents, who might see this as a sell-out.

The OPP will be dropping all criminal charges against the Native warriors and Chiefs and blame Gwen Boniface's poor policing policies (have set her up already).

OK, that's old news, really. Was there ever any chance that the OPP would do anything else?

Read the whole thing and decide on your own if it sounds credible.

This is the true modus operandi of the Liberals being all things to all people, it's on the one hand a buy-out and on the other hand a sell-out.If the Haldimand council are accepting of such convoluted governmental wheeling and dealing, including huge rewards for thuggery, guess they can in future put up or shut up. This isn't the end, look for more of the same insanity to break out across the land.

This isn't the first time I have heard a rumour about a casino there. What bothers me is the secrecy. Why is this being suppressed? And how is MSM being forced to keep everything so quiet? Who is responsible for that?

Ok,, is totally floored, If there is any truth to this, The Caladonia Web site had to publish the source. This unnamed but reliable source is the same thing we all bitch at the MSM for doing. Give us the source and I have emailed thier web site asking for it. This is a copy of my post at SDA which is also covering this thread

I agree that I would like to see the source... enough of this BS unnamed source crap. I don't know why somebody just doesn't stand up for what's right. If the person thought it was correct to leak this information, then that person should be proud of it, not hide in the shadows.

Looks like you were right on your hunch about there being a Casino link to all this Steve. If this turns out to be correct, then Dalton McGuinty needs to resign NOW. This is ridiculous. This whole thing is as much his fault as Gwen Boniface's.

50.00 says the liberal party of Ontario is in for some kick-backs...!
Now we can see why all those federal liberals work for the Dalton gang now.
Welcome to Canada's soviet version of

Kilrea Waits To Hear About Whether He Can Keep His Job
Gord McDougall
Monday, July 31, 2006

Candidate for Mayor Terry Kilrea should hear by the end of the week whether he will have to step down from his job in order to run for mayor.

Kilrea is a court enforcement officer, and questions have been raised about whether he can still hold the position while running for office.

While Kilrea says the parties involved have been asked not to discuss the issue with the media, he has previously stated that he ran for mayor last time with no question about whether he should leave his job. He sees no reason why this election should be any different.

A meeting was held this morning between the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General and Kilrea's union, OPSEU. A decision is expected by Friday.

Sheesh.

"And how is MSM being forced to keep everything so quiet? Who is responsible for that?"

Joanne, Do you really think MSM is being told not to report on this? The media in this province would love to have something like this to toss at McGuinty. But they don't, because it isn't true.

The reason they wouldn't report on this is because there's no shred of evidence that it's true.

Real whistleblowers go to credible media outlets, not Gary McHale's website.

who would benefit from this information if it were true? just like oka was resolved by legislating more canadian jurisdiction over disputed land so too will caledonia. the victims, as always, will be the poor politically unconnected. the pork barrels, to them, will always be empty.

It will certainly be interesting to see how this story plays out. The original buzz in Caledonia was that Hill and his band of brothers seized the land because he lost out in the court fight over it a year or two before, when he tried to get it for a casino...

"Real whistleblowers go to credible media outlets, not Gary McHale's website."

Uh, well, I'm not quite as sure as you that there is a science of whistlblowers.

His "confirmed source" was right about Gwen Boniface going to Ireland. Why is it so important to name his source? You want to bust their balls for making McGuinty look bad? I think it's something for him to admit or deny now that it's been leaked.

Would he be man enough to admit it? Or politician enough to deny it and hope everyone has forgotten when they start building it?

wlyonmackenzie: "Crime pays in Onterrible....and the genetic criminal makeup of the Liberal party never disappoints.": LOL!!

If this is true, then we're fried, I mean democracy and trust in Ontario's Premier are kaput, finished, washed up. And as other posters have pointed out, it won't end here: The same lawless and disorderly, not to mention criminal, tactics will be used in other parts of the province and Canada.

My kingdom, if I had one, for a Premier with guts and integrity. Duh-lton McGuilty is a total disaster; he doesn't respond to e-mails (I've sent him a few, always asking a pointed question in the hopes that he'll answer, and he hasn't responded to one, not one, not even an acknowledgement of receipt) and except for showing his face at the Premiers' Conference a couple of weeks ago, he's completely disappeared.

With all of these rumours and innuendo swirling around Caledonia and what's going on, or not going on, he should have a press conference to allay Ontarians' alarm or to 'fess up to what's happening. He's running Ontario as though the province is his own personal fiefdom--and being a Liberal, he probably thinks it is. Business as usual, people.

How do we flush this guy out of the bushes? Is he still in the country? Has anyone seen him lately?

"Government the Liberal Way: Ignore and Abuse the Hard-working, Honest Taxpayers and Reward the Law-breaking Thugs and Criminals, with Kickbacks for Us, Obviously..."

"And, vote for us, eh, in the next election?"

The person who leaked this information may face legal issues through an oath he or she took, but felt obligated to let the public know. There may be a concern for their job too. I feel it does not matter but what are we going to do about it. The usual Nothing!!!

New Kid on The Block said: "My kingdom, if I had one, for a Premier with guts and integrity. Duh-lton McGuilty is a total disaster"

Yes he is... and having a "total" disaster in charge has economic implications that impact everyone in the province and ultimately Ontario's prosperity. I'm not confident that Tory's opposition would have any will to deviate from Dalton's example of compromised governmental ethics. Neither deserve the public trust.

For the record, McGuinty has shown himself to be more ideologically malicious and beholden to public service unions than Bob Rae's dippers,... Deeper into patronage pork than Harris was when he handed out sweet contracts to his pals during "privatization",....more untrustworthy, a greater liar and more flip-flops on election promises than any federal liberal regime...and more authoratarian and regulatory than Ontario's prohibitionists from the 20s.

We see in this Caledionia deal that essentially racketeers and free booters run the province's policy amd pork distribution through patronage and blackmail and backroom deals.... a square business enterprise with free market competition ethics cannot compete against politically connected freebooters with "inside tradr" political advantages....The name of the game in Onterrible is get into the mud with the other political patronage insider networks or go broke competing against their inside advantage with a corrupt government which tilts the level playing field to the "cheater's" advantage....it's one of the reasons I will not expand my business into Ontario and I am not alone.

The province is gaining a reputation as a politically corrupt backwater...much like Quebec...in the eyes of Canadian businessmen in the west and American and European investors.

Ontario voters have more to do than just flip flop back and forth between 2 main political parties which are just flip sides to the same coin...you have as big a job to clean up the province's politics/systems as we do with Ottawa...actually more so. Scum like Mc Guinty can only thrive in a culture of political unaccountability and voter apathy.

I could cry, wlyonmackenzie: I grew up in Ontario and after a few years in the Maritimes and the Caribbean, am now back in Ontario. It wasn't always like this.

This place is becoming a dump. By all means, if you have a business and have a choice, have nothing to do with the completely morally, ethically, and poltically challenged provincial Liberals (I didn't vote for them).

Like you, I don't hold out much hope for John Tory, either: a PC fence sitter from where I'm looking, and much too entitled a political insider (did I hear someone whisper "hack"?) for me to put any trust in him.

My great-great-great-grandfather helped to usher responsible government into Ontario before Confederation, and has, by some historians, been called "a man of principle." He's rolling over in his grave.
