Violent ex-prostitute is an aboriginal role model?

Audra Ann Taillefer is wanted on charges of robbery and two counts of intimidation related to her violent actions at the Caledonia stand-off.

If this is the kind of role model young aboriginals have to look up to, no wonder things are so messed up:

Audra Taillefer is from the Mohawk Nation. She has spent 20 years in and out of the commercial sex trade. Audra had the privilage [sic] to work with Cherry Kinglsy [sic] and Melanie Mark on the Sacred Lives Project about sexually exploited Aboriginal Youth. After making contacts at a national level, Audra has travelled to help create programs that promote prevention. She has travelled to Ottawa and sat on the Youth Justice Policing Awards and even to Whitehorse for Community Development. Currenty she teams up with the RCMP Drug Awareness Campaign and does prevention workshops in the local schools. She has been featured on many radio stations and appeared in various newspapers. Audra is the Coordinator of the Indigenous Response Team working with Aboriginal People in the sex trade in the greater Victoria area. Audra's goal is to be a positive role model for Aboriginal Youth. [emphasis added]

I guess her new goal is to stay out of prison.

Whew. For a moment there you nearly panicked me.

See, I used to work for the same organization that operated the National Aboriginal Role Model Program, and your headline made me worry that someone had slipped through the filtering process. Thankfully that's not the case.

I see that Ms. Taillefer is active on the IndigenousYouth mailing list hosted by resist.ca where they seem to be posting updates about Caledonia.

While looking through the archives of the many mailing lists hosted by resist.ca I came across this.

"Representatives of the Niagara Palestinian Association today visited the site of the first nations land claims blockade. A Palestinian flag was presented to the Onkwehonweh clan mothers, chiefs, braves and solidarity community who are camped out at the blockade. The Palestinian flag was raised by the head of security, a native from New York, and a young brave. It looks beautiful flapping in the sky on the same pole below the proud Mohawk flag. Palestinian hattas or scarves, a universal symbol of resistance, and food were given as gifts."

Anyone surprised by the connection?

This is a good post. It seems you did some research before you started writing. Well played.

"sexually exploited aboriginal youth" - are usually exploited by aboriginal adults, they're the sick ba*tards who should go to prison.
