Now they want to write our laws

From the Jerusalem Post:

The leader of Hizbullah, heading a march by hundreds of thousands of Shi'ite Muslims on Thursday, said US President George W. Bush and his secretary of state should "shut up" after they accused Syria and Iran of fueling protests over cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad.

"There can be no settlement before an apology and there can be no settlement before laws are legislated by the European Parliament and the parliaments of European countries," [Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah] said.

Islamic nations should demand "a law committing the press and the media in the West that proscribes insulting our prophet. If this matter cannot be achieved that means [the West] insists on continuing this," he added.

Normally I would scoff at Nasrallah's ridiculous demand. A law indeed. This from the leader of terrorist organization.

I wonder what sort of law would please Nasrallah. I wonder how many body parts need to be lopped off before he is satisfied that the law is sufficient to the task of punishing doodlers and cartoonists.

But I worry that the same sort of people who have written our ridiculous hate crime legislation, the kind that earns a person a fine for calling someone names, are contemplating exactly this sort of thing.

I wouldn't put it past them.

Of course, such a law would have to be carefully tuned. You would have to ban any insults directed at Muslims, allow Muslims but not one else to insult Jews, and make sure it is open season on Christians.

Angry, Angry, Angry - you're so very discriminatory. What about Hindus, Buddhists, Janes, Shinto, Sikhism, animism, Falun Gong, etc? Which category do you include them in?

is this guy sitting right way on that donkey?

And then after we pass those laws, maybe they can riot in the streets because of the wanton western women who so brazenly flaunt their naked faces in public, this is getting stupid. I say we send over 500,000 Play Stations and give these people something to do, they are obviously bored out of their frickin' minds.

Caught the Canadian TV coverage last night, can't remeber if it was CBC or CTV but they had blurred the cartoons during broadcast. Does this mean that the Canadian Free Press have subjugated Canadians into accepting the dictates of "THE MINORITY". I'm one Canadian that is sick and tired of being a whipping boy for all these minorities, I'm tired of being a 'just and tolerant' Canadian. Tolerance is a two way street and if these people can't accept that principal then it's time they went back to where they came from. I've bent over backward for too long, it's time to say enough is enough.

I mentioned all this nonsense in my blog and referred to An Coulter's column..

"Ann has hit the nail in the head. Muslim extremists show their true purpose and goals of their fanatisim. Placating them is impossible, because like spoiled children, the more they get, the more they want, until they have and control everything and put civilization back to the stone age. Maybe it's time to practice some 'tough love'."

Can you imagine what the Veterans of WW1 &II are thinking about the cowardly way that Canadians seem to be willing to approach an attack on the very freedoms that many of our fathers and grandfathers fought and died for?

It makes me shudder at some very deep level to see the cowards that speak in my name.

The proper punishment for transgressing cartoonists? Chop off their pencils.

Sadly, with HRTs very active in Canada it will not take much to have a law like this accepted. I have heard radio show hosts suggest that schools should teach ALL religions to give students respect for different religions--this whilr it is illegal to even recite the Lord's Prayer in our schools, or have Christmas concerts, for fear of offending someone! This law is really just an extension of what already exists--just adding another more equal group to the list! Another step on the road to having Big Brother telling us what to think and say, and draw!

Perhaps we could make a trade... We'll enact laws protecting the profit, if they enact laws protecting christian missionaries, churches, and followers from being killed, maimed or otherwise harmed. That would be a fair deal.

Western MSM is the real culprit here. They not only give these nutbars the time of day they play their zany antics over and over ad nauseum.

These Islamist maniacs would probably go home to their prayer rugs if they knew nobody was watching or cared about their childish outbursts.

It's all about displaying their devotion...if nobody is looking there is no reason.

Don't be surprised if the Islamists try to invoke our ludicrous Anti Discrimination laws to have our media silenced. For that matter I'm sure there will be attempts to silence you and I as well.

You see, the liberals managed to pass laws that make free speech a crime. Where any truly progressive person would be aghast at this, the Liberals (who like to use the term Progressive to describe themselves. Now there is Irony!) prefer to punish freedom of speech rather than protect it.

Boy do we have our work cut out for us!

When they are feeling they are in a position to 'demand', they are indeed feeling that they have become very powerful.

Visors down, shields up. It's quite inevitable where this is going.

This is a clash of very basic ideas: the idea of theocracy versus separation of church and state. If they win, we live in a world where powerful men decide what God is thinking, and what judgement He would deliver - and they, being His Special Servants, are there to mete it out. How convenient that such terror, meted out in God's name, delivers as a side effect such wonderful, addictive power in this earthly realm.

Unless that kind of society turns your crank, we must resist. We reject this idea, and will not have it.

Now, can we buy some more of your oil please?

Here at UPEI they are succeeding!
Our university newspaper was the first paper in Canada to print all 12 cartoons. Not long after this week's issue was distributed, the president of UPEI had them removed. The campus police then paid a visit to editor RAy Keating's office and asked for any copies in his possession to be handed over. He refused. UPEI has stated that this week's edition will not be available off-campus either.
PLUS: UPEI has now shut down any discussion of the censorship on the weblogs or comment forumns attached to their website!
As CTV's Steve Murpny said tonite "they are now censoring any discussion of censorship".

I believe this furor is nothing but a distraction, meant to drown out the noises of the whirring UF6 centrifuges.

There is ample evidence emerging in the blogosphere to debunk the 'prevent worship of idol' myth.

We are observing clever people with an agenda we have seen before and before in history, yet lacking the tools to inflict their will through power. In place of those tools, they manipulate with incredible skill our liberal left and appeasing press.

The cartoons are a distraction from the goings on in Iran with uranium enrichment.

Looks like the EU is already considering a "cartoonists' code".

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060209/ts_nm/religion_cartoons_eu_dc_1

It is a farce to suggest the code will not be used to pressure newspapers and other media not to publish anything remotely critical of Muslim groups.

You know I thought that the europeans were pulling their heads out of their butts. Now it looks like they shoved them right back in. Since when does one have to apologize for being free?
