Discontent with Air America

From DU:

God, AAR Sucks

Don't get me wrong. I'm glad they're finding sponsors, and I know all about how AM radio works, but yesterday was the final straw.

I jumped in the car at 5:20 and turned on AAR to catch Rhodes. I tuned into the middle of some advertisments. I listened to 5 minutes of advertisements. Rhodes popped in, answered a single call lasting no more than three minutes, then went to another 6 minutes of commercials, at which point I arrived at my destination.

When AAR is doing commercials I switch to our faux affiliate for some lars larsen. Lately, I have been spending more time listening to GOP radio than AAR.

I wish AAR the best, but if more than half of the time they're on the air is used for advertising and self promotion then I'm done as a listener.

Needless to say, the poster is accused of being a troll (which he angrily denies), while others, with a note of desperation, go on about how wonderful Air America is.

Not a mention of the scandal, of course.

By all accounts, Air America is hemorrhaging badly, and the suggestion that they are taking their listeners for granted and pushing hard for maximum revenue-generating ad-time is not far fetched. Listeners don't like being taken for granted, and may start leaving, which then pulls down what Air America can charge for air time, which means more ads are required to make up the shortfall, which means less air time for actual talk, which means fewer viewers...

Death spiral.
