Cindy Sheehan: Legitimized by the Hollywood Moonbats

In this case, Christine Lahti, who you might remember as the actress who was in the bathroom when the Golden Globe was awarded to her during the 1998 ceremony, is now looking to get some notice by supporting Cindy Sheehan:

Cindy Sheehan is my hero. She is the hero of all Americans who make up the 62% of us who oppose this war. As an American exercising her right to free speech, she is a brave, passionate, living example of democracy, and she has the undeniable force and the moral authority of a grieving mother. Being a mother of three, I can't even imagine the depths of the grief she must feel having lost her son in this horrific war. But I can imagine that her grief and rage -- her demand for justice and action -- are a force that is unstoppable.

No wonder Bush is intimidated. No wonder he can't even walk down his driveway to speak with her. He is scared shitless.

Ah well, if Christine Lahti, B-list actress, says so, it must be true. She goes on:

Let's see how loud we can make our protests -- if she can do it, why can't we all? We must all make our voices heard. She is a heroic inspiration to the silent majority and one big, jagged, terrifying thorn in Bush's side.

I'm sure she'll be very loud in Beverley Hills. Christine Lahti is, of course, part of the main stream of Hollywood, which means well to the left, as can be seen with her campaign contributions. In December 2003, she was part of the brain trust planning George W Bush's defeat in 2004:

After the press conference, [environmentalist Laurie] David, [ACT president Ellen] Malcolm, [former Bill Clinton deputy chief of staff Harold] Ickes, and [ACT CEO Steve] Rosenthal moved to a larger Hilton venue to the strategy session, which was closed to the press. Attendees reportedly included Donna Mills, Rob Reiner, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Earl Katz, Christine Lahti, Mike Farrell, and Larry David. [Actor Ed] Asner called it “a fantastic event, packed to the gills. The panel’s [PowerPoint] presentation showed various graphics showing the narrow edge in target states – how they were lost or won, and can be retained or regained without great effort. How important it is to get out the vote. It also showed very promising recent polling showing where any Democrat stood against Bush. There was no hyperbole – it was straight facts as to how the plan was to progress, with appropriate funding, They had envelopes to contribute – I have mine and plan to.”

Artists United co-founder [producer/director Robert] Greenwald called it “One of the best organizing meetings I’ve ever been to. They talked about a very organized plan – no matter who the candidate is – to work to raise money, and work very hard to get major turnout in ’04 by a long-running sustained organizing campaign. The plan got a standing ovation.” [Publicist Ilene] Proctor dubbed the meeting “sensational,” and added, “Ickes spoke about electronic voter fraud.”

Conservatives were alarmed because they fear Hollywood’s star power, fundraising capacity, and ability to creatively communicate to millions.

Yes, alarming.

Well, now Lahti is plugging for Cindy Sheehan, applying all her abilities to communicate sensationally, or whatever it was that Proctor was trying to say. I'm not sure that would be considered good news for Sheehan.

[Norman Lear adds his celebrity support.]
